Sale still struggle to live up to the potential of their players. They don’t yet have the easy cohesiveness of the more experienced teams, so sometimes end up, as today, on the end of a scoreline that doesn’t really do them justice.
Most of the damage was done in the last 15 minutes, as Loughborough turned the screw on a pitch that was cutting up badly.
To their credit, Sale’s scrum continues to impress. From going backwards at the start of the season, it now more than hold its own and several times got the upper hand against the Lightning scrum.
Progress is slow, but it will happen.
